From July 13:
To mitigate that, you need very good defenders (especially centrally) or an exceptionally consistent goalkeeper and they have neither. Only two teams — Man City and West Ham — have a worse xGC/shot ratio. The former gets away with it and are second in the table in part because they have an exceptional keeper, while the latter are close to the relegation zone.
I can’t blame Gab. This came out on a Monday. He could’ve been hungover. But what a throwaway at the end, eh? To mitigate quality chances, you need an exceptional keeper or very good defenders. That’s what’s separating West Ham, who might get relegated, and Man City, who, I don’t know, are probably CL favorites. Fabiański may yet make the shortlist for goalie of the year. West Ham’s most valuable player for a large chunk of the year. So, that’s the difference between City and West Ham. How about, “while the latter allow opponents to take target practice at Lukas Fabiański.”
